Students in the US are preparing to go back to school after their summer break, but it hasn't stopped an eager learner from coming in early.

Teachers at a highschool, just outside of Houston, Texas, got the fright of their life when they found an alligator near the front door.

Wildlife officials came in to wrestle with the small gator, who put up a fight, before being taken away and releasing the animal into the wild.

Students aren't expected back at school for another week.
