Winger Matt Allwood wants to ensure he gets the basics done well as the Warriors try to repair their leaky edge defence against Wests Tigers in Sydney.
The Warriors go into the NRL clash in Sydney on Sunday having let in nine unanswered tries last weekend as North Queensland came from behind to hammer them 50-16 in Auckland.
After that defeat, Allwood has been brought in for rookie winger Ken Maumalo, who will turn out for the club's NSW Cup side instead.
Allwood won't be surprised if he's a target and he's concentrating on the fundamentals against the bottom-of-the-table Tigers.
"I just want to be reliable, make my tackles and do all the little things right, and hopefully the rest takes care of itself," he said.
Allwood, 22, mades 14 appearances for Canberra in his debut season last year before crossing the Tasman, but 2015 has had its challenges.
He has played just one NRL game for the Warriors, scoring a try in the 24-16 home defeat against Brisbane in late March.
He then picked up an ankle injury and has since had to work his way back through the NSW Cup.
"It's been a bit tough," he said.
"Everyone wants to play as many first-grade games as they can. I just have to keep putting my best foot forward."
The Warriors are desperate to end a six-match losing streak that has left them with just a mathematical chance of make the top eight.
Allwood said there was obvious disappointment at how things had gone for the Warriors immediately after they hit the heights of the top four.
But he said the mood on the training paddock remained upbeat.
"Training the last few weeks has been really good," he said.
"Unfortunately, the score on the scoreboard hasn't reflected that, but everyone is keen to get out there and go hard."
