Almost 300 Qld child abuse reports per day

Queensland's government is being flooded with about 300 reports of suspected child abuse daily, but insists it can handle them.

Queensland's government insists it is able to act upon the hundreds of reports of suspected child abuse that flood in every day.

Child Safety Minister Shannon Fentiman has told a budget estimates hearing her department receives about 300 reports daily.

But she insists her department is able to respond and ensure children are safe.

"All of these cases are being actioned, they are given absolute priority. They have all been acted upon or are being acted upon," she told a budget estimates hearing on Thursday.

Ms Fentiman was also grilled about 644 reports of suspected child abuse from schools that never reached police and child protection agencies because of an IT malfunction with reporting system.

The bungle was discovered by the government last month.

The government also announced earlier this week that a further 272 reports, stretching back to 2013, had been blocked from authorities because of a suspected firewall issue.

Ms Fentiman said she was sure that all the cases were being investigated and acted upon.

Opposition child safety spokeswoman Tracey Davis asked whether any of the 272 children were at "significant risk of harm", but Ms Fentiman said it was difficult to determine as suspected abuse cases often changed as more information became available.

"None (of the cases investigated) have required intervention," she added.
