Ambo concerns made up by union: Newman

The Queensland premier says his government has fixed problems in the ambulance service.

A union is making up claims about fatigue and other problems in Queensland's ambulance service, Premier Campbell Newman claims.

United Voice, which represents ambulance officers, will on Friday launch a state pre-electon campaign asking the major parties how they'll fix problems in the service.

It says fatigue levels have sky-rocketed as paramedics work longer hours, contend with staff shortages, and do without breaks.

"In the past week, we have highlighted over 1,000 unfilled shifts in Brisbane in a three-month period, and key ambulance patient transport services have been outsourced without consultation," spokesman Gary Bullock says.

But Mr Newman says paramedic Sid Cramp - who is running for the Liberal National Party at next year's poll - told him the union is making it up.

"Mr Cramp tells me that nothing could be further from the truth (regarding dissatisfaction among paramedics)," he told reporters on Friday.

"He says the union is making it up. He says in all the period he has worked in the service he has never seen people so motivated, so positive and so excited about coming to work."

He said Mr Cramp had recently recounted how his job three of four years back was trying to find hospitals to send ambulances too.

"Because the ambulances were ramped up with patients in the back," the premier said.

"We have made huge positive changes. Queenslanders know that. The patients know that."
