Amcor buys Brazil tobacco packer

Amcor has bought Brazil's largest tobacco packaging group Souza Cruz for $US30 million.

Global packaging giant Amcor is buying a Brazil-based tobacco packaging company Souza Cruz for $US30 million ($A39.05 million).

Souza Cruz is majority-owned by British American Tobacco plc and is the market leader in the Brazilian cigarette market, which represents 35 per cent of Latin American cigarette consumption and is the 12th largest tobacco market in the world, Amcor said.

The business was expected to achieve annual sales of approximately $US63 million.
