America's Cup champs unveil new boat

Australian skipper Jimmy Spithill is pleased with the new boat Oracle Team USA will race when they defend their America's Cup crown this year.

Two-time defending champion Oracle Team USA have unveiled the 50-foot catamaran to be skippered by Australian Jimmy Spithill in the 35th America's Cup in Bermuda.

The boat is just longer than 49 feet and is more refined than the 45-footer the syndicate has been training in, according to Spithill.

"Now it really starts for this boat. There are 100 days to go and the clock's ticking. We really need to put some hours on it," he said.

Qualifying races begin on May 2, with the America's Cup match between Oracle and the winner of the challenger series beginning on June 17.

Oracle will launch and christen the boat with champagne on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT), and begin dockside testing.

It will sail for the first time as soon as the weather permits.
