Sport's highest court has reduced the suspension given to America's Cup sailor Dirk de Ridder from three years to 18 months.
De Ridder was banished from the 2013 America's Cup and Oracle Team USA was docked two points by the international jury after the illegal modification of boats used in warm-up regattas.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that De Ridder "gave instructions, express or implied, to add weight to the forward king post" but decided that a three-year suspension "was disproportionate in light of the circumstances of the case and compared to previous sanctions imposed by the sailing federation in similar matters."
In his appeal De Ridder had argued that the International Sailing Federation did not have sufficient evidence and that the sanction was disproportionate.
