Record-breaking Black Caps batsman Corey Anderson destroyed the West Indies bowling attack with Ross Taylor's old bat as the Kiwis steamrolled to a 160-run win in the third ODI in Queenstown.
Anderson, 23, smashed his way to the fastest limited overs century, taking just 36 balls to reach his 100 in the rain-shortened 21-over match.
He eclipsed Pakistani Shahid Afridi's previous record of 37 balls, set against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in 1996.
Left-hander Anderson smote the 12th six of his innings off spinner Nikita Miller in the 18th over to reach three figures.
Anderson finished unbeaten on 131, having smashed 14 sixes as New Zealand posted a mammoth 283-4.
A tongue-in-cheek Anderson afterwards tried to shift credit for his whirlwind innings onto former Black Caps captain Taylor's hand-me-down bat.
"I've had that bat for a wee while now, but it was Ross's originally, so he probably wants that back," Anderson said.
"It's a nice bat - I don't think it was me, it was the bat..."
Anderson was well supported by Jesse Ryder, whose 104 was the sixth fastest ton in ODIs in his second match since the well-documented problems he suffered at the start of 2013.
The pair put on 191 for the fourth wicket after coming together at 3-84 in the seventh over.
Having Ryder at the other end had been a huge help, Anderson said.
"It's nice to have another guy down the other end doing a similar thing - it's tough for bowlers, they can't get any rhythm and they don't know where the ball's going."
New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum paid tribute to both Ryder and Anderson, describing their efforts as once-in-a-lifetime performances.
"Both these guys have been through some tough times, probably Jesse more so than Corey," he said.
"But he's also had to battle some tough times as a youngster with injuries.
"And for both of them to come out like they did today and create history, and to do it in a manner that was just so brutal, shows what good players they are."
The West Indies lead the five-match series 1-0 after a two-wicket win at Eden Park on Boxing Day. The second match in Napier was rained off.
