Jimmy Anderson has become the first player to take 100 Test wickets at Lord's as England moved closer to victory by reducing India to 2-17 at lunch on day four of the second Test.

India remained 272 runs behind after Chris Woakes (137 not out) helped England to a large first-innings lead.

Joe Root chose to declare on Sunday with England on 7-396 midway through the opening session.

Anderson picked up where he left off in the first innings (5-20), having Murali Vijay caught behind for his second duck of the match.

As well as reaching the Lord's milestone, the dismissal - Anderson's 96th against India - made him the highest wicket-taker in Test matches between the two nations.

His 97th soon followed: another in-swinger for Lokesh Rahul (10), striking him on the pad for a clear lbw.

Having failed to take to the field due to a back strain as England added 39 runs to its overnight total, India captain Virat Kohli wasn't allowed to bat as his usual position of four.

With Kohli unable to return to play for the first 37 minutes of India's innings, Ajinkya Rahane moved up a spot.

Rahane (one not out) was alongside Cheteshwar Pujara (5no) when drizzle brought about an early lunch.

After winning a tight first Test at Edgbaston, England is in a strong position to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
