Defence Minister Kevin Andrews wasn't affected by a security scare at an Asia-Pacific security summit in Singapore.

The Shangri-La Hotel hotel was placed under lockdown at dawn on Sunday after police shot dead a man and detained two others in an apparent drug-related incident outside the venue.

Police opened fire after a car with three people crashed through police barricades before dawn.

A spokesman for Mr Andrews said he was aware of the incident.

"It hasn't affected the minister's program," he told AAP.

The security meeting, in which US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter and other senior defence and military officials from Asia and Europe are attending, resumed at about 11am (AEST).
