Android update can cause keyboard problems

Updating to Android 4.4 may cause certain apps to shut down on smartphones.

Updating to the current version of Android (4.4/KitKat) can give you a scare by shutting down certain apps on your smartphone, reports German telecommunications website Teltarif.de.

Users of alternative-keyboard apps will often have to reactivate them in the settings panel, since Android will default to the standard keyboard after the update.

The update might also make some apps disappear from the Home screen.

The answer is simply to go to the App Menu and choose the command Add to Home again.

Both hassles are more common with commercial programs and less so with freeware versions.
