Andy Moles in line to coach Afghanistan

Former Black Caps mentor Andy Moles is set to replace departing Afghanistan coach Kabir Khan.

Former New Zealand coach Andy Moles is set to take over the top job in Afghanistan ahead of the World Cup.

Afghanistan coach Kabir Khan resigned on Tuesday, telling AFP the job was putting too much strain on his family.

Former Pakistan international Khan ends seven years in the role, having steered the country from division five to division one status, qualifying them for three world Twenty20 events and their first ODI World Cup.

Moles, 53, was this year appointed Afghanistan batting coach and is favoured to step up as head coach for the World Cup co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia from February.

The Englishman replaced John Bracewell as Black Caps coach in 2008 but resigned 11 months later, citing differences with senior members of the team.
