Anger over Vic public servants' $16k party

The department heads of two Victorian public service bodies have criticised a $16,000 party to celebrate the end of the financial year as inappropriate.

An end of financial year party for Victorian public servants expected to cost taxpayers about $16,000 has been cancelled by department heads who described the event as "completely unacceptable" and a breach of protocol.

The dinner, at Melbourne Aquarium, was to be held at the Fish Bowl room on Friday for staff from VicRoads and the Transport Accident Commission and their partners, The Herald Sun reported on Monday.

TAC boss Joe Calafiore and VicRoads acting chief executive Kerry Thompson say it was "completely unacceptable" and "a clear breach of both VicRoads and TAC guidelines", adding a full investigation will take place and describing the event as "a fundamental misjudgment and simply not appropriate".
