A group of passengers on a commercial flight in Pakistan have lost their patience after their flight was delayed for more than an hour due to a delayed politician.
Passengers on a flight from Karachi to Islamabad were furious when Rehman Malik, the former Pakistani Interior Minister, sauntered onto the Pakistan International Airlines flight 90 minutes after its scheduled departure.
Mr Malik was blocked from entering the plane, with passengers heckling him over the delay.
One passenger captured the drama on a mobile phone, and the footage has been widely circulated.
“You should be ashamed of yourself!,” one passenger is heard shouting.
“Even if you are a minister, we don’t care. We don’t care anymore,” he said.
“How long will we put up with this nonsense in the country?”
Mr Malik later denied that he was responsible for the drama, saying he had gone to airport late because Pakistan International Airlines staff members told him the flight would be delayed.
“The delay was not due to me,” he said. “I myself suffered because of the airline’s mismanagement.”
A spokesman for Pakistan International Airlines said the flight had been delayed by at least 90 minutes because of technical problems, and then an additional half-hour for unknown reasons.
The incident comes amid growing tensions in Pakistan, where there is anger over perceived corruption and class inequality surrounding politicians.
Protestors have been camped out in Islamabad for the past month, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
