Angry, violent Melb man gets jail

A Melbourne man who fired a rifle during a violent domestic dispute and then fought with police during his interview has been jailed.

A Melbourne man has been jailed for firing a rifle during a violent domestic dispute before fighting with police, during a night that went from bad to worse.

William Mastropavlos, 25, first got into a fight at a service station where he kicked in a glass panel in the early hours of November 30 last year, a court was told.

Returning home to Reservoir he argued with his partner, punching her in the face and firing a shot. Police who came to search for the gun also found a stolen motorbike in his garage.

Mastropavlos was then taken to Reservoir Police Station where he assaulted two police officers as they tried to interview him, and damaged a cell wall.

He has pleaded guilty to more than 20 charges including firearm offences, possessing stolen property and assaulting police.

"You have proven yourself to be a violent man," County Court of Victoria Judge Philip Misso said on Friday as he imposed a backdated 12-month prison term.

Much of this has already been served as Mastropavlos has spent seven months in remand detention.

The judge also imposed a three-year corrections order requiring Mastropavlos to complete 200 hours of community service and be assessed and treated for mental health, drug and alcohol problems.
