NSW captain Paul Gallen will miss the Blues' first training session ahead of next week's do-or-die State of Origin showdown with Queensland.

Gallen twisted his ankle in Cronulla's NRL win over North Queensland on Monday night, leaving the Blues lock unable to run until Thursday and therefore ruling him out of training on Wednesday.

"I won't run for a couple of days," he told Sky Sports Radio's Big Sports Breakfast.

"Laurie has already said that, I won't run until Thursday. I'll just miss that Wednesday session probably.

"I had a knock really early off the back of a big Jason Taumalolo run which sort of got my knee a little bit. I sort of twisted my ankle as well."

However 34-year-old Gallen, who has announced that 2016 will be his last season for NSW, is adamant the injury will not put him at risk of missing the match.

"I'll be fine to go," he said.

"It's nothing that will keep me out or lose any games at all."

Gallen missed three matches for the Sharks earlier in the season with a high ankle sprain.
