Ankle surgery to sideline North's Riddell

North Melbourne expect midfielder Ash Riddell to return to their AFLW side in about six weeks as she recovers from ankle surgery.

North Melbourne's Ash Riddell will have surgery on her injured ankle and is likely to be sidelined for the rest of the AFLW regular season.

The Kangaroos midfielder suffered ligament damage to her right ankle when bumped by GWS defender Nicola Barr during Friday night's rain-affected clash at Drummoyne Oval.

The off-the-ball incident was referred directly to the AFLW Tribunal, with Barr receiving a one-game suspension on Tuesday for rough conduct.
