Australian paddler Ken Wallace won gold in the 5000 metres at the Canoeing World Championships in Moscow on Saturday, adding to the silver he won earlier in the day with Lachlan Tame in the K2 1000.

Wallace has dominated the 5000m in recent years, winning seven of his past eight starts over the distance, including two world championships.

His younger sister, Bernadette, struck rudder trouble while in a leading group of five in the women's 5000.

Unlike the 5000 metres, the K2 1000 is an Olympic event, with Wallace and Tame now medal contenders for Rio after just three events together.

Tame is Australia's premier sprinter over 200 metres.

Wallace will get a chance to add to his medal tally on Sunday when he competes in the final of the K1 500, the event in which he won gold at the Beijing Olympics.

The 500 is no longer on the Olympic program.
