World Surf League organisers are desperately hoping an increased swell greets them on Wednesday morning after an eighth consecutive lay day was called at the Fiji Pro.
The men's event at Cloudbreak is one of a few on the world tour which cannot be moved to another break, and with the event window closing on Friday, competitors must still surf through the third, fourth and fifth rounds before the quarter-finals and beyond.
However with the forecast showing lighter winds and bigger waves approaching, organisers remain hopeful the competition won't be compromised in coming days.
"The swell has come up a little bit, but we are still seeing that shorter period, broken-up swell," commissioner Kieren Perrow said.
"We will not run any heats today based on what we are expecting to come through tomorrow.
"The next days should be really great and fingers crossed that it will be an incredible finish."
When competition resumes, the current world No.1, Australian Matt Wilkinson, will go head-to-head with Brazil's Alejo Muniz in round three.
Before that, heat nine will be an all-Australian affair when Mick Fanning meets Adam Melling.
Other Australians scheduled for action are Matt Banting, Josh Kerr, Adrian Buchan and the retiring Taj Burrow.
