A new deal has been struck to allow greater co-operation between Naval Group Australia and shipbuilder ASC over the construction of Australia's new submarine fleet.

The Framework Agreement between the two groups has been signed and Defence Minister Christopher Pyne says it will identify ways for the two groups to collaborate over the provision of supplies and services.

"This framework agreement is a great early step to ensure ASC has a role in delivering the Attack class submarines as well as sustaining our existing Collins class fleet," Mr Pyne said on Monday.
