The Australian Olympic Committee's board is to hold a crisis meeting before next week's crunch presidential ballot where long-time incumbent John Coates is being challenged.

It comes amid reported allegations of bullying and financial exorbitance within the country's peak Olympic body.

An AOC spokesperson on Monday confirmed the executive would meet later this week.

The spokesperson could not confirm a News Corp report claiming several members of the 12-person executive had lodged a demand for the meeting ahead of the May 6 ballot.

The accusations come as Coates' presidency is being challenged for the first time since he took up the post in 1990, amid the backdrop of a huge political fallout between the AOC and the government-run Australian Sports Commission (ASC).

Hockeyroos 1996 gold medallist and ASC board member Danni Roche headlines the nominations on a platform of reform, including a pledge to work for nothing.

That's in contrast to Coates' wage, revealed in the AOC's 2016 annual report to have risen to $715,000 from $675,000 in 2015.

Of the 40 summer and winter Olympic sport federations set to vote in Sydney on May 6, Roche will be banking on support from the ASC's Winning Edge sports such as hockey, sailing, cycling and aquatics.

Coates has the backing of rowing, athletics and likely most winter sports, with many undecided - at least publicly.

Since Roche's nomination several others have put themselves forward for board positions, including triple Olympic gold medallist Rechelle Hawkes, former Olympic cyclist Tracey Gaudry and dual Olympic fencer Evelyn Halls.
