Appeal for caller after Vic body discovery

Police in Melbourne are investigating the death of man whose body was found outside a block of units in the city's east.

Homicide detectives are appealing for an anonymous caller to come forward after a man's body was found outside a block of units in Melbourne's east.

The man's body was found about 12.30am on Saturday in Bayswater North.

Paramedics discovered his body on a footpath behind a block of units on Bayswater Road after an unidentified man rang emergency services at 12.20am.

Cause of death has yet to be established, but the dead man, believed to be about 50 years of age, had injuries to his torso and face.

"I would like to ask the person who called triple zero to alert ambulance to call back or attend a local police station," Detective Sergeant Nick Densley told reporters.

The detective hopes the caller will be able to help police piece together the events that led to the man's death.

An autopsy will be conducted later on Saturday.
