Appeal planned for Wright daughter's win

The Wright estate plans to appeal a $25 million court win by the late mining heir's third and youngest daughter Olivia Mead.

The previously "secret" daughter of the late mining heir Michael Wright is set to have her multi-million dollar inheritance challenged.

West Australian Supreme Court Master Craig Sanderson ruled last month that Olivia Jacqueline Mead, the third and youngest daughter of Mr Wright, should be handed $25 million from his estate.

The 19-year-old, the product of Mr Wright's relationship with Elizabeth Anne Mead after he divorced three women, had challenged his $3 million bequest, which was subject to onerous conditions and could only be accessed when she turned 30.

The matter hit headlines when actuaries and lawyers pressed her for details about what she expected she would need for the rest of her life, listing extraordinary items such as a diamond-encrusted bass guitar worth $250,000, which features a nut carved from 10,000-year-old mammoth ivory.

Her wish list amounted to about $20 million but Master Sanderson concluded Ms Mead was "in no sense ... spoilt by her father" and deserved far more than she had been left, given her half-sisters Leonie Baldock and Alexandra Burt had both been bequeathed $400 million.

While Master Sanderson ruled the $25 million should be paid within 60 days of the February 26 judgment, the Wright estate has since sought clarity from the court about the drafting of orders.

It was told there was a 21-day appeal period after those orders were drafted, and have signalled their intent to challenge the ruling.

The matter will return to court next week.
