An Indigenous health group says bulk-billing co-payments proposed by the Commission of Audit would create new barriers to healthcare for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
The Commission has recommended the introduction of a $15 co-payment for GP visits, as well as a separate co-payment for medicines.
The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) says most Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are low income earners, and Indigenous people suffer the highest level of chronic disease, requiring regular GP visits.
Spokesman Justin Mohamed told Kristina Kukolja introducing the co-payments would make it harder for them to get the care they need.
