After a nil-all finish through extra time, Argentina won the shoot-out 4-2 as the Netherlands failed to capitalise on its first and third attempts.
A day after Germany's record-setting offensive performance against Brazil, the two teams became the first to ever play out a World Cup semi-final to a nil-all score after 120 minutes.

Germany will be coming off its 7-1 win over Brazil in the first semi-final when the two winners meet on Monday morning to decide the champion.

Throughout the match, fans were tense waiting for either side to score the first goal.
It wasn't until the penalty shootout that the team moved ahead to claim victory.

Argentinian in Brazil also kicked off celebrations, matching the fervour displayed by their compatriots in Australia.

And for Argentinians worldwide there was an added reason to celebrate, with the match win coinciding with the country's Independence Day today.
