Aristocrat sells lotteries business

Gaming machines supplier Aristocrat Leisure has sold its lotteries business for 10.5 million euros to software giant Playtech.

Gaming company Aristocrat Leisure is selling its lotteries business to the world's biggest online gaming software supplier, Playtech, for 10.5 million euros.

Aristocrat chief executive Jamie Odell says the sale will allow management to focus on growth areas such as North American gaming operations and the digital market.

Completion of the sale is expected in the current financial year.

Aristocrat Lotteries' products includes interactive video terminals, transaction processing systems, a variety of own and third party games and related services.

In its half year financial report released in May, Aristocrat said revenue from the lotteries business had fallen as fewer video lottery terminals were installed.

Aristocrat said the sale would result in a non-cash write-off of about $45 million - related to the carrying value of intangibles and foreign exchange losses - in the current financial year.

Playtech, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, develops gaming products and content.

Shares in Aristocrat were one cent lower at $5.39 at 1116 AEST.
