A man has robbed a Melbourne milk bar, pointing his gun at a woman who came into the shop as he held it up.

The balaclava-clad, overweight robber with an Australian accent charged into the St Kilda East milk bar on Saturday morning and threatened the owner with a shotgun, police say.

He pointed the gun at the shopkeeper and a woman who opened the door of the shop before he fled in a waiting car with cigarettes and cash.
