Six West Papuans who sought asylum in Australia last month are being transferred to refugee camps in Papua New Guinea, near the Indonesian border.

They arrived on an Australian island in the Torres Strait via PNG, but were deported by Australia to Port Moresby, under special arrangements.

They are now in Kiunga in PNG's Western Province.

From there they will be taken to camps where thousands of West Papuans have lived since fleeing Indonesian authorities in the 1980s.

One of them, Yacob Mandabayan, spoke from Kiunga to Stefan Armbruster about their trip under armed escort.
