Lance Armstrong's legal team is laying out a key part of his defence against the federal government's fraud lawsuit - that his Tour de France victories were worth far more to sponsor US Postal Service than to him.
Armstrong's lawyers filed documents in federal court on Tuesday, noting the Postal Service's reviews of its contracts estimated their value at up to $US140 million in global exposure in the form of public relations, revenue and product sales.
The documents also include a June 2000 presentation to the Postal Service Board of Governors that showed sales spiked some $US8 million in 1999. That's the year Armstrong won the first of seven consecutive Tour de France titles.
