Arson probe after Sydney laundry blazes

A southwest Sydney factory fire that caused more than $1.6 million in damage last year may have been deliberate, and may also be linked to a 2015 blaze.

A fire that gutted a commercial laundry and linen factory in Sydney's southwest may have been deliberately lit, police say.

Detectives are also investigating whether the October 27 blaze on Airds Rd at Minto is linked to a large 2015 fire at a commercial laundry at nearby Ingleburn.

Ignition points were found inside the building at Minto, and the fire is believed to have caused more than $1.6 million in damage.

"Both fires are suspected to have been deliberately lit and targeted the same type of business, which were operating in the same area, and while there's a few years between incidents, the similarities certainly raise our suspicions," Detective Inspector Richard Puffett said in a statement on Monday.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw suspicious activity on the afternoon of the Minto fire, especially in the Bow Bowing Creek canal area.
