ASADA pays Thurston an early visit

NRL superstar Johnathan Thurston has expressed frustration after being woken at 6am by drug testers.

NRL superstar Johnathan Thurston has taken to social media to express frustration following an early morning visit to his home by drug testers.

Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority officials arrived at the North Queensland playmaker's Townsville home at 6am on Wednesday to obtain urine and blood samples.

Players can be subject to random drugs tests at any time, with ASADA made aware of the movements and whereabouts of players by their clubs.

Thurston's main gripe seemed as much with the manner, as the timing, of the visit following the recent birth of his baby daughter.

"Thanks ASADA for the 6am visit for a urine and blood test! I nearly forgot to say thanks for bashing down the front door and waking Frankie up too! #effingtorture," Thurston wrote on Instagram, the post accompanied by photos of the testing process.

Thurston's early morning visit comes two days after injured Melbourne five-eighth Gareth Widdop claimed to be inconvenienced by testers.

"Had a wonderful visitor tonight whilst at home was enjoying a lovely dinner too thanks ASADA dinner is freezing," Widdop wrote on Twitter.

His Storm teammate and club captain Cameron Smith replied to the post by saying he had been tested as well.
