Government plans to split its wholly-owned shipbuilder ASC into three separate parts will come under the spotlight at Senate estimates committee hearings on Tuesday.
Under the plans announced last week, ASC will be split into three companies for building new ships and submarines, maintaining the existign Collins submarine fleet and for running the associated infrastructure and workforce.
Labor hasn't said it opposes this measure which is intended to prepare the way for construction of new submarines and warships.
But it says the government must guarantee that the move will not result in job losses in South Australia and that submarine design capabilities will be established in Australia.
Also before an estimates committee on Tuesday are members of the Australian Human Rights Commission and executives of the National Broadband Network, who will face questions about the pace of the rollout, quality of services and costs.
The House of Representatives is holding four days of sittings this week, debating the backpacker tax and the bill to enable the same-sex marriage plebiscite.
