Boom Gold Coast halfback Ashley Taylor is racing the clock to be fit for Saturday's crunch NRL clash with the Warriors in Auckland.

Taylor has been battling a groin problem and was absent from the team's training session on Tuesday, suggesting he is set to be rested.

Coach Neil Henry would be mindful of not exacerbating the problem and, with the side having the bye next week, they appear likely to give him a fortnight to recuperate fully heading into their finals charge.

Cameron Cullen is set to partner Tyrone Roberts in the halves in his absence.

Taylor has been one of the club's standouts in his rookie year, guiding the side around the park with aplomb and has them in top-eight contention after being written off before the start of the season.

He booted the deciding field goal in the side's memorable 29-28 win over South Sydney in round 13 and has been arguably the best rising player in the competition this year.
