Ashleigh Barty gets wildcard to Hobart

Australia's Ashleigh Barty has been awarded a wildcard entry into the Hobart International tennis event ahead of the Australian Open.

Junior Wimbledon champion Ashleigh Barty has bolstered her chances in next year's Australian Open with a wildcard entry into the Hobart International.

The 17-year-old Australian will join Samantha Stosur at the WTA tournament in Tasmania in January.

The field includes former world No.1 Venus Williams and Hobart International defending champion Elena Vesnina.

"I know I will face some tough opponents but I am looking forward to the challenge," said Barty, who is ranked 188th.

"It is the perfect event for me to prepare for the Australian Open."

Since taking the junior Wimbledon singles title in 2011, Barty has been a grand slam doubles finalist three times.

She and partner Casey Dellacqua were runner-up in this year's Australian and US opens and at Wimbledon.
