The head of share market operator ASX Elmer Funke Kupper has downplayed a suggestion he could be the next chief executive at ANZ bank.
ANZ's board reportedly has begun searching for a successor to high-profile boss Mike Smith, even though he expressed a desire last year to stay for another two to three years.
But Mr Funke Kupper, who previously held a senior position at ANZ, downplayed a report in The Australian he could be heading one of Australia's biggest banks.
"I can only smile when I read that in the paper," he told reporters on Thursday.
"What I'm excited about is what we're doing here and nothing else."
On Wednesday, another News Corp publication, The Courier-Mail, speculated the Australian Securities Exchange chief executive may be the next boss of Suncorp.
