Asylum boat tragedy inspires artist

An artist who was moved by the 2010 Christmas Island boat tragedy has opened an exhibition with her works in Melbourne.

The exhibition, called 'Face to Face with Asylum Seekers', by artist Pat Waters, depicts the tragedy of sinking boats, drowning children and what she calls the dehumanizing Australian policies that incarcerate refugees in detention centres.

Ms Waters told Sonja Heydeman she'd like to think the exhibition is an important resource for young people.
