Asylum seeker not abused on Nauru: police

Nauru police say an asylum seeker found naked on a street near the detention centre did not report being raped or assaulted.

Police have denied claims a female asylum seeker was abused while out on day release from Nauru detention centre.

In a statement on Monday, police said the woman was found walking in a nearby street naked after failing to return to the Australian-funded centre on Saturday night.

"There is no injury to her or any sign of other physical force or trauma," the Nauru Police Force said, adding the woman refused medical examination and said she had not been raped or assaulted.
