At least 48 people are confirmed to have died in an overnight attack, the Red Cross says.

At least 48 people are confirmed to have died in an overnight attack by suspected Shebab militants on the Kenyan coastal town of Mpeketoni, the Kenyan Red Cross said.

   

"The death toll has risen to 48," the organisation said on its Twitter feed, as local officials said security forces were still searching for victims of the attack.
