Athlete body to aid Hungary 2024 Games bid

In support of Budapest's bid for the 2024 Summer Games, the Hungarian Olympic Committee has set up a 31-member commission of athletes.

The Hungarian Olympic Committee has set up a 31-member commission of athletes to advise and promote Budapest's bid for the 2024 Summer Games.

The commission is headed by Olympic swimming champion Agnes Kovacs and includes other champions like gymnasts Krisztian Berki and Agnes Keleti, canoeist Akos Vereckei and judoka Antal Kovacs.

The commission is also expected to ensure that the interests of competitors - the "athletes first" motto - are represented in the bid.

Members of the commission, who have won about 25 per cent of Hungary's 168 Olympic gold medals, will also focus on raising awareness of the Games among youth and promote sports as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Los Angeles, Paris and Rome are the other bidders. The IOC will select the host city in September 2017.
