Software giant Atlassian has widened its second-quarter net loss, but has boosted revenue compared to a year ago.

Net loss for the three months to December 31 was $US65.2 million ($A91.3 million), compared to $US1.7 million in the same quarter the previous year, due to a $US47.3 million write-down of Atlassian's deferred tax assets.

Atlassian said the cost was driven by the reduction in the US corporate income tax rate from 35 per cent to 21 per cent and the company's assessment of its deferred tax assets.

Total revenue for second quarter rose 43 per cent to $US212.6 million, from $US148.9 million a year ago, and is expected to be grow to between $US217 million and $US219 million in the third quarter.

The Australian tech darling also expects total revenue for the full year to be between $US853 million and $US857 million.

The number of new customers grew by 4,825 during the December quarter, bringing Atlassian's total customer count to more than 112,500.
