An ATO deputy commissioner's son, who was allegedly part of a syndicate that stole $165 million from the tax office, has been bailed after his wife and grandmother posted a $300,000 surety.

Adam Cranston, 30, appeared via video link at Central Local Court on Thursday charged with conspiracy to defraud the commonwealth.

Cranston's matter was heard ahead of four other men who appeared separately via video link in the Sydney court.

The five were arrested on Wednesday along with four others during almost 30 raids across NSW.

Adam Cranston's $300,000 bail surety was put up by his wife and grandmother. He was also forced to surrender his passport and will have to attend Bondi police station twice a week.

The others arrested were Cranston's sister Lauren Anne Cranston, Dev Menon, Devyn Michelle Hammond, Daniel Rostankovski, Jason Cornell Onley, Christopher James Guillan, Aaron Leo Paul and Daniel Simon Hausman.

All were bailed or are due to appear at court on a later date.

Adam Cranston is due to reappear at Downing Centre Local Court on August 29.

Cranston's father, deputy commissioner Michael Cranston, has been issued with a court attendance notice for allegedly abusing his position as a public officer, the Australian Federal Police said on Thursday.

Officials seized a haul of luxury items including two planes, sports cars, jewellery, artwork, firearms and at least $1 million cash found in a safety deposit box in the raids on properties linked to the syndicate.
