Attack on Brazil stars sparks WC14 fears

Brazilian players say they don't intend to play matches in the Sao Paulo state championship this weekend to protest against the fan violence.

Brazilian players are getting ready to go on strike and halt one of the country's most traditional championships this weekend to demand more security after an attack by fans of a popular club.

Players say they don't intend to play matches in the Sao Paulo state championship this weekend to protest against the fan violence.

Corinthians players who were attacked on Saturday at the team's training center by about 100 fans upset with poor results released a statement Tuesday saying they want to go on strike.

They say they have the support of the "Common Sense" players' movement which has been seeking to improve Brazilian football, and from a union that is gathering support from players in all other 19 clubs in the Sao Paulo championship.
