Attempted murder charge after NSW fire

A man allegedly involved in assaulting and tying up a 74-year-old man before his house was set alight has been charged with attempted murder.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after an elderly man was allegedly tied up and robbed at his northern NSW home which was then set alight.

Police say that on October 6 last year two men forced entry into a house in East Lismore and assaulted a 74-year-old man.

The men then allegedly tied him up then set fire to the premises before driving off in his car with stolen items.

Emergency services attended and untied the man who spent several days in hospital.

The following month, on the evening of November 16, three men allegedly forced entry into a house at Richmond Hill and assaulted the three occupants, including the 74-year-old man who was staying at the premises.

The men allegedly stole property before fleeing.

On Monday, a 48-year-old man who attended Lismore Police Station was arrested and charged with attempted murder, damage property with intent to endanger life, aggravated break and enter and, break, enter and steal.

He was refused bail and appeared in Lismore Local Court where he was remanded in custody to reappear on April 4.

The man is the third person to be charged after a 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were arrested in January.

Their matters are currently before the courts.
