Rail operator Aurizon is warning it faces a $30 million hit to its bottom line, largely because of damage inflicted by Cyclone Marcia.

Aurizon says it estimates a hit of between $24 million and $28 million to its underlying earnings because of the category five cyclone that hit north Queensland in late February.

The charges relate to the suspension of some rail services and infrastructure damage caused by the cyclone.

Aurizon faces another $2 million charge relating to industrial action by train crews across Queensland between February 20 and 24.
