Aurizon reaffirms rail volume guidance

Aurizon says it is on track to meet its full year rail volumes guidance despite a weak December quarter.

Aurizon has re-affirmed its full year rail volumes guidance despite a decline in coal and iron ore volumes in the December quarter.

The company hauled 54.8 million tonnes of coal during the three months to December 31, which was down two per cent on a year ago, while iron ore volumes slumped 22 per cent to 6.1 million.

Aurizon attributed the slide to mine closures and operational issues in Queensland and NSW but says it is on track to meet its full year guidance of between 210 million and 220 million tonnes of coal and around 23 million tonnes of iron ore.
