Aussie 5-year-old crowned BMX world champ

A five-year-old, eight-year-old and nine-year-old from Australia have been crowned BMX world champions at an international meet in the Netherlands.

Australia has three new world champions - and they're all under the age of nine.

Young BMX bandits Bailey Mills, Will Oliver and Thomas Tucker have stolen the show at the World Championships in Rotterdam.

The trio were part of a 77-strong Australian contingent that competed on Thursday in the challenger class of this year's titles.

A pint-sized Bailey Mills took out the crown in the 5-6 year-old boys category, while Will Oliver from Bendigo beat the field of eight-year-olds to grab his maiden title.

Reigning world champion Thomas Tucker defended his crown, but only after being pushed by fellow Australian Callum Howarth who finished second in the final for nine-year-olds.

At least half a dozen other Australian youngsters scored podium finishes against some of the best young riders in the world.

The action continues with the cruiser divisions on Friday, with the elite competition starting on Saturday.
