Aussie basketball prospect delays NBA move

Australian basketballer Deng Adel has withdrawn from the NBA draft to play another college season.

Top Australian prospect Deng Adel has opted against entering the NBA draft in favour of playing a third season of college basketball with the University of Louisville.

Adel, 21, had worked out with several NBA teams after initially nominating for next month's draft.

As a sophomore, the South Sudan-born Adel performed strongly in the Cardinals' NCAA March Madness campaign this year despite their earlier-than-expected second-round elimination.

The forward had 16 points from each of the two outings and averaged 12 points during the season.

"I want to thank all the NBA teams that gave me the opportunity to work out for them," Adel said on Instagram.

"Coming from when I came from, it was truly a blessing. I am excited to come back for my junior year at the University of Louisville and help my brothers accomplish our goal."

He is expected to be taken in the top 50 of next year's draft.

Adel's Australian Louisville teammate Mangok Mathiang, another solid NCAA performer, has declared for the NBA draft on June 22.
