Aron Baynes scored an NBA career-high 15 points and pulled down nine boards as the San Antonio Spurs inflicted a 17th straight loss on the Philadelphia 76ers, defeating them 109-103 in Philadelphia.
While the Australian created some personal history - with 14 of his points coming in the first half - the Sixers moved a step closer to an unwanted slice of their own with the loss.
Philadelphia will tie the 2009-10 New Jersey Nets (0-18) for the worst start to a NBA season if they lose on the road to Minnesota on Wednesday.
Their 17th consecutive loss came against a short-handed Spurs team that was without their two best players, with Tim Duncan and Tony Parker sitting-out the game.
Argentine guard Manu Ginobili simply happy to get the win against the struggling side.
"You can't be thinking they haven't beaten anybody and we didn't want to be the first one," Ginobili said.
The Sixers endured a NBA-record 26-game losing streak last year en route to a 19-63 season.
Michael Carter-Williams finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to lead Philadelphia, which set its franchise record for most losses to start a season on Saturday.
Philadelphia head coach and former Boomers boss Brett Brown critical of his side and how they came out for the match.
"We started the game and we had no juice, no energy," Brown said.
"We play the Spurs and we were star struck for a second."
In Utah Dante Exum and Joe Ingles both played few minutes in their 103-101 loss to the visiting Denver Nuggets, where speedy guard Ty Lawson led the away side with 12 assists and 15 points.
In a battle of two Eastern Conference contenders Washington thrashed the visiting Miami Heat.
Twenty-plus point games from both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh were not enough for the Heat as Wizards guard John Wall delivered another double-double scoring 18 points and giving off 13 assists.
Washington closed the gap to surprise Eastern Conference leaders the Toronto Raptors with the win.
In the late game the Los Angeles Clippers made it five wins in a row, smashing the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves 127-101.
Blake Griffin and the in-form J.J. Redick leading the way with 23 points apiece.
