Aussie Burmese optimistic about Burma's future

Australia's Burmese community is optimistic US President Barack Obama's visit will empower ordinary Burmese, Hannah Belcher reports.

US President Barack Obama's historic visit to Burma is aimed at encouraging more political reforms in the once pariah state.

His time there is being seen as the starkest illustration yet of Burma's emergence from decades of isolation and repression.

Australia's Burmese community is optimistic the US President's visit will empower ordinary Burmese.

There are more than 20,000 Burmese - many of them former political exiles and refugees - living in Australia. Most of them are still not free to return home.
