Australians were caught in a day of stunning second round upsets at the NCAA basketball tournament, with Louisville and Duke among the casualties and Kentucky surviving a thriller.
Louisville's Melbourne duo Mangok Mathiang and Deng Adel had their hopes of a title dashed 73-69 on Sunday by a Michigan team that survived a plane crash 11 days ago.
It was a disappointing final college game for the fifth-year senior Mathiang, the second-seeded Louisville's starting centre and team leader.
Louisville led 36-28 at halftime.
"I have no regrets in tonight's game," Mathiang, who had 13 points from six of seven shooting and will enter the NBA Draft, said.

Michigan, a seventh seed, will play Oregon in the third round on Wednesday.
Duke, another fancied second seed featuring Gippsland forward Jack White, lost 88-81 to seventh-seeded South Carolina.
South Carolina will play third-seeded Baylor, who have another towering Sudanese refugee raised in Melbourne, Jo Lual-Acuil.
Baylor came from behind to knock out 11th seed University of Southern California 82-78 in another thriller.
Baylor were down with less than five minutes to go when scoreless guard Manu Lecomte erupted with 12 of Baylor's next 13 points.
The 213cm tall Jo Lual-Acuil had a quiet game with just two points and one rebound.
Sydney centre Isaac Humphries and his second-seeded Kentucky managed to fend off the tough 10th-seeded Wichita State 65-62 to set up a much-anticipated clash with third-seeded UCLA.
Wichita had two three-point chances to tie or take the lead in the game's final 13 seconds.
Humphries has struggled for playing time this season and went scoreless in his nine minutes on the court.
In other games, two top seeds survived with Kansas beating Michigan State 90-70 and North Carolina challenged before escaping Arkansas with a 72-65 victory.
